In this project, we focus on two fundamental questions:

  1. What are the skills, experiences, and environments necessary for innovation?
  2. How do we build these environments to enhance the experiences and skills of students?

In the preparatory phase, we interviewed a select group of successful American innovators and asked them to reflect on their education and careers and identify the skills/traits, experiences and environments that contributed to them becoming successful innovators.

Following this preparatory phase, a workshop was held at Washington DC. The workshop brought together leaders and stakeholders in industry, academia, and government

The workshop also lays the foundation for the next step  that will use focus groups for generating strategies for teaching innovation and designing environments that foster innovation.
